ORANGE CYMS gun Ben McAlpine has fired on the international rugby league scene, scoring a hat-trick of tries in just eight minutes for NSW Country Firsts in their resounding 58-18 win over South Africa Rhinos.
Played at Brakpan on Friday night, NSW Country asserted its authority early building a 22-0 lead after 25 minutes.
The hosts and NSW Country then traded tries before half-time, with a Jean-Di Oosthuysen four-pointer lifting the South African’s spirits as they headed into the sheds 32-12 down at the break.
Then came McAlpine’s magic eight minutes.
The reigning Group 10 Player of the Year crossed consecutively in the 53rd, 57th and 61st minutes.
His third and final four pointer notching up Country’s half-century.
The tourists try-scoring spree ended with skipper Jamie Feeney crossing in the 64th minute to round out the scoring at 58-18, the emphatic victory marking the end of the CRL South African tour.
