Western representatives following a second place finish at the Regional Athletics Carnival at Dubbo on August 30, the quartet will go into the senior girls’ relay heats tomorrow morning hoping for a top four finish.

If they net that then it’ll take them through to the championships’s top 16 and anything after that will be a bonus.

“We hope pretty good,” Reith-Snare said when asked how the group hopes to perform at the Sydney Athletic Centre, Homebush.

Both Reith-Snare and Naden competed at this level last year, having formed half of the Bletchington team representing Western at the 2012 state championships.

They’re both fully aware of the jump in competition when racing at the next level and say, since qualifying for the championships, an extensive training program has them prepared for the biggest race of their lives.

“We’ve done 60 laps at training,” Naden said a little sheepishly. The other three girls soon burst out laughing.

Whether the actual lap count is more or less, each girl is individually fast and under the watchful eye of Mitch and Nicole Williamson, they’ve been slowly putting it together as a team thanks to plenty of training at Waratahs Sportsground.

“All of the girls are very fast,” Naden continued.

“It’s going to be tough,” Greatbatch added.

Bletchington will be well represented at the championship, with Eshani Rawat in the 11 years girls’ long jump, Jordan Bruce the 11 years boys’ high jump, Izaak Golding the boys’ eight years 100 metre and Savannah Moore in the nine years girls’ 100 metres.

The 2013 PSSA State Championships begin today at Homebush, with the senior girls’ relay heats, semi-finals and final tomorrow.
