THE roar of engines will be replaced by the ringing of wedding bells at Mount Panorama this afternoon, when race officials Shane Clarke and India Anderson-Clift tie the knot.
A red carpet will be laid in Pit Lane for the occasion, with the bride set to walk down the aisle at 4pm.
The couple, from Griffith, will exchange their vows in front of other racing fans and volunteers, as well as V8 ute and V8 Supercar drivers. Then, India will throw her bouquet off the Bathurst 1000 podium.
“The whole thing’s completely snowballed,” Mr Clarke said. “We started by saying we’d get married at our campsite and then, after speaking with my grid chief Michelle, the idea was thrown around that we should get married in Pit Lane. Twelve months ago it was a fantasy, but now all of a sudden it's reality.
“We’re unbelievably excited but, of course, there’s a few nerves as well.”
With a passion for motorsport, the couple has been attending race events together since they met at their local fruit and vegetable shop in 2006.
“She was a checkout chick and I worked stacking the fruit and veg. I proposed to India 12 months later,” Mr Clarke said.
“I had a restaurant closed off for the night. We had dinner and then when the dessert came out it had ‘will you marry me’ written in chocolate and a little three-tier cheesecake with the ring on it.”
The groom surprised his true love yesterday afternoon when he presented her with a new engagement ring. Afterwards, Ms Anderson-Clift and her bridesmaids, Angela Currie and Nichole Webb, swapped their campsites for a hotel room for some pre-wedding pampering.
They will be escorted to Pit Lane in V8 race utes this afternoon, where they will meet Mr Clarke and his best man Sean Currie.
The groom’s seven-year-old son Isaac will be the pageboy.
Shane and India will be married by former Jesus Racing Team member “Revhead” Reverend Steve Peach.
After the wedding, a reception will be held at the couple’s campsite.
The newlyweds will both work as race officials in Pit Lane this weekend, before travelling to the Gold Coast for their honeymoon.
