POLICE swarmed around the derelict old hospital site yesterday afternoon after receiving reports people were inside.
The operation to clear out illegal tresspasers from the old hospital came on the same day NSW Health Infrastructure said it was not ready to announce details about the future of the site.
“Positive discussions are ongoing with [Orange City] Council and our previous statement still stands,” Health Infrastructure communications co-ordinator Alice Hardy said.
The old hospital site has come under criticism from councillors and members of the community as it continues to deteriorate.
Last month Cr Glenn Taylor said he had major concerns after he was walking home and discovered a fence at the rear of the nurses quarters had collapsed onto the street.
The hospital has been vacant since March 2011 when the new hospital opened on Forest Road.
It has been used by Orange Fire and Rescue since that date to carry out a training exercise in the building.
