THERE are still three months to go until Christmas, but many shoppers have already started their Christmas shopping, according to Myer sales manager Gary Cant.
Myer staff put up the store’s festive decorations a week ago, and Mr Cant said many shoppers had already bought presents.
“We have a big layby business on toys ... most of them start doing their laybys in August,” he said.
Mr Cant has worked at Orange Myer for 42 years and says while the frequency of customer laybys are down overall, in preference to credit card, laybys for toys are still very popular.
Myer’s festive display has prompted comments from many customers, according to Mr Cant.
“It gives people a reminder that Christmas is starting to come close,” he said.
“They don’t realise it’s so close, it’s only 13 weeks away.”
Mr Cant said decorations were often the first thing that people thought about.
“They want their decorations four to five weeks before [Christmas],” he said.
Mr Cant said he was looking forward to the festivities over Christmas with staff and customers.
“I love Christmas and I think it’s great when the trees start going up,” he said.”
