THE votes are in and John Cobb has been officially returned as Member for Calare, more than two weeks since Australia went to the polls for the federal election.
Christian Democratic Party candidate Ian Lyons was the only one of Mr Cobb’s competitors to join the incumbent at the public event on Monday where Calare returning officer Dimity McKenzie declared the poll.
Calare is one of only 31 out of Australia’s 150 electorates that have been officially declared so far.
Mr Cobb took 57.65 per cent of the first preference vote, earning a 5.24 per cent swing.
Labor’s Jess Jennings took 25.39 per cent, followed by the Palmer United Party’s Brian Cain with 4.77 per cent, and the Greens’ David Mallard with 4.44 per cent.
Mr Lyons took 1.78 per cent of the vote coming in at sixth place out of the nine candidates.
