LIFE Studio are no strangers to grand finals.
They’ve played in the last four Orange Netball Association division one deciders.
What’s different this year is the team they will field in today’s decider against Robin Hood.
“We’re really excited because half our team hasn’t played in a grand final before, while the other half has,” Life Studio captain Mardi Aplin explained.
“We’re trying to prepare the ones who haven’t been there before, but also prepare ourselves.”
Chloe Madden, Mel Vardanega, Charlotte Jasprizza and Nat Carthew have all played first division, before but never before for Life Studio (formerly Westoil).
Life Studio may have been the first team into today’s grand final, but it hasn’t been smooth sailing all season.
They have been plagued by injuries, which forced to forfeit their round 10 match against arch-rivals Robin Hood.
Now, just at the right time, everyone is back on deck and ready to fight for a premiership.
“As a team we’re still learning a few different things, which is probably not ideal with the grand final so close,” Aplin laughed.
“Hopefully the old combinations can help the new ones out.”
Life Studio toppled Robin Hood 56-54 in when they first met this season in round three and the Life Studio girls couldn’t hide their excitement.
Injuries hurt in round 10, but they were able to bounce back for the major semi-final to beat Robin Hood 54-53.
In the last four division one grand finals, Robin Hood has won 43-29 in extra-time in 2009, 45-44 in 2010, 36-35 in 2011 and 41-36 last year
“I hope it doesn’t come down to one point again,” Aplin said.
“We’d love to break their run.”
Aplin knows it will take something special to come out on top today.
“I think every year it comes down to, and I know it sounds cliche, the team that plays better on the day and minimises their mistakes,” she said.
“There are key players all over the court for both sides, so it comes down to the best team performance.”
This is the first year Life Studio has been a stand alone club, after previously affiliating with Orange High.
Aplin said it would be a perfect end to their debut season if Life Studio could claim the division one premiership.
Today’s ONA division one grand final at the Orange PCYC starts at 3.20pm.
