ONE group of girls will double up in today’s Orange Netball Association grand finals.
CYMS GWH have qualified for two grand finals after a strong season.
They will line up against OHS Junior A in the 15 years Blue decider at 10.50am.
Then at 1.50pm, they will take on RH Andrew Harvey Tiling in the Division 3 Red decider.
This is the first year the girls have lined up in a senior competition.
CYMS GWH co-coach Ellie Lawry said the step up has been great for the young players.
“They have to think about their game more,” Lawry said.
“The ladies might not be as fast, but they have experience, so the girls really need to think about how they play.”
The CYMS girls have not been beaten since the Division 3 competition was split after round nine.
Since then CYMS have beaten their grand final rivals by 21 and 18 goals in the regular season before enjoying a 40-32 major semi-final victory.
CYMS and Junior A have had a great rivalry in the 15 Year Blue competition this season.
After the 15s competition was split following round nine, the two teams met in round 10 where CYMS recorded a 22-14 win.
In the major semi-final, CYMS edged out Junior A 25-23.
“They’ve beaten them (Junior A) every time but it’s been close,” CYMS co-coach Shannon Kavanagh said.
The CYMS girls agreed if they wanted to win the 15 Years grand final today, they would have to lift their intensity for all four quarters.
Marnie Lenehan, Kinisha Roweth, Alice Aumuller, Lucy Brisbane, Annie Miller, Brooke Burcher, Anna Matthews and Olivia Fitzpatrick play in both CYMS GWH sides.
Beth Curtain, Zali Nagle and Tara Nagle are part of the GWH Division Three Red team but not the 15 years side.
All the CYMS GWH players are looking forward to today’s games.
“We’re excited and nervous at the same time,” Brooke Burcher said.
