IF the Bloomfield Wildcats come out on top in the Group 10 Junior Rugby League under 13s grand final today, it will be thanks to a strong team performance.
The Wildcats have had a great season and finished on top of the competition ladder under the guidance of coach Steve Morgan.
They won all 13 regular season matches before winning the major semi-final to book the first spot in the grand final.
Morgan said the team’s consistency across the park made them so competitive.
“They play as a team,” Morgan said.
“No individual player stands out. You could pick six kids every week as the team’s best player.”
Almost every player in the team has scored a try this year, but there are four who have run in 15 or more four-pointers this season.
What makes the team’s success so impressive is most of them are relatively new to rugby league.
“There’s eight kids who are playing their first or second year of footy,” Morgan explained.
“There’s a core group of five or six kids who have played for about four seasons.”
The Wildcats will take on Bathurst St Pat’s in today’s decider.
When they met in round 13, Bloomfield came out on top 26-24.
“It’ll be close again,” Morgan said of today’s game.
Today’s under 13s grand final in Lithgow will kick-off at noon.
