ORANGE City first grade outfit isn’t the only side gunning for back-to-back Blowes Clothing Cup titles tomorrow at Pride Park.
The Lions second grade team will take on the Bathurst Bulldogs in this year’s grand final, just 12 months after the Lions got the better of the Dogs in the corresponding game 20-15 at Pride Park.
Lions co-coach Brad Cleal said tomorrow’s decider will be won and lost up front.
“Our biggest job is not letting them out-muscle us in the forwards,” he said.
“They’ve got a pretty handy pack.”
This year’s grand final is in fact the third time in a row these two sides have played in the last game of the second grade season.
Bathurst won in 2011 and in 2012, Orange City got one back.
Cleal was hopeful of taking out the third.
“It’s the same sort of feeling as last year,” Cleal said.
“They’re a tough side, but they’re good fun to play against.”
Undefeated in both firsts and seconds throughout 2013, Cleal believes the continued success of the Orange City club can be attributed to one thing.
“I just think our club’s fitness is way above that of everyone else,” he said.
“Steve [Hamson] flogged us at the start of the season and then again on Saturday, he flogged the first grade boys and there would have been five or six of my guys there as well.
“He still wants everyone to be doing the hard yards.”
The 2013 second grade grand final kicks off at 1.30pm.
