A 19-year-old man is in custody charged with a number of sexual assaults on a four-year-old girl near Orange.
He was charged at Orange Police Station by detectives from the Child Abuse Squad based in Bathurst and was refused bail.
Police alleged the accused carried out the offences on June 2 between the hours of 2pm and 8.25pm.
The man, who cannot be named in order to protect his alleged victim, is charged with attempted sexual intercourse with a person under 10 years of age and aggravated sexual assault of a victim under the age of 16 years.
He is also facing one charge of assault with intent to have sexual intercourse with a person under the age of 10 years and indecent assault of a person under 16 years of age.
Police have taken out an apprehended domestic violence order on the accused to prevent any contact with the alleged child victim.
The case against the accused will come before Orange court in October. He will appear via audio visual link from jail.
