RIDING a wave that’s led to his two blues side impressively claim wins in back-to-back sudden-death semi-finals, Orange Hawks co-coach Jared Brodrick is confident a relaxed build-up will help secure a third.
Hawks tackle Cowra Magpies in the under 18 grand final at Wade Park tomorrow.
Just getting there has been a monumental feat for Hawks, with Brodrick’s side coming back from 24-4 down against CYMS in the minor semi-final to win 34-24 in Lithgow before knocking off minor premiers Panthers 30-14 last week.
Now, Hawks have Cowra, a side that’s defeated the two blues three times in 2013, in their sights.
“We’ve been pretty relaxed this week at training. We’re not going to put too much pressure on ourselves,” Brodrick said.
“There’s no pressure on us. Cowra is expected to win. We’ll just be treating it like a normal game.
“We’re excited. I think we’re still on a high from our last two games so hopefully we can take that into Sunday’s game.”
Playing a leading hand in getting Hawks to the decider, half-back Tony Pellow will again be in charge of directing the two blues around Wade Park.
A skilful pivot, Pellow’s off-the-cuff play is what sets him apart from the rest.
“He just plays what’s in front of him,” Brodrick said.
“You can’t teach how he plays.”
The under 18 decider kicks off at 11am tomorrow.
