POLICE were swarming across the central west yesterday as a convoy of Rebels motorcycle gang members rode through the region.
They hit Bathurst from Sydney at about 1pm to be greeted by a major visual police presence at the Evans Bridge on the Great Western Highway.
Mobile units including Polair were also seen tracking the motorcyclists on the highway as they headed west in an event that police media said was their major run for the year.
It is believed their final destination is Perth, but police would not confirm this, only commenting they were going interstate.
The operation also included a major police gathering at Molong, believed to be a chance for the authorities to further emphasise the fact they want the motorcycle group to do the right thing.
A spokesperson from police media said the major operation was designed to coincide with the Rebels ride.
“We’re there just to ensure everybody abides by the law,” the spokesperson said.
Riders in the group of about 100 bikers had their faces covered and some were wearing their club colours.
When the convoy entered Bathurst they stretched from the Evans Bridge all the way back to the traffic lights near the Kelso Hotel.
