Word of Mouth Wines in Orange has taken out a gold medal and trophy for its sparkling wine at the 2013 Winewise Small Vignerons Awards.
Produced by winemaker David Lowe, it is encouragement for four tough years, according to co-owner Peter Gibson.
“The last four years have been a struggle in a physical sense and winning this means it’s a long time between drinks,” he said.
“We are particularly pleased because a good quality champagne is particularly hard to make.”
He says the victory is sweet because he admires the wine show, which has recognised the 2010 vintage Isobel’s Idyll from Word of Mouth.
“And this is considered to be a really tough show,” he said.
Other district wineries to be acknowledged with awards in the same show were Ross Hill with a gold medal for the Vintage Brut and a bronze for the Pinnacle Chardonnay.
Canobolas-Smith took out a silver for the Sans Souci Semillon Sauvignon Blanc and Brangayne of Orange who were awarded bronze medals for the Orange Riesling and Orange Sauvignon Blanc.
