AN elderly couple was badly shaken but uninjured when their vehicle was accidentally reversed up a gutter in Peisley Street, smashing through the front window of a business.
The incident occurred just before 1pm yesterday in busy lunchtime traffic.
The couple’s Mitsubishi came to a halt when it became wedged in the front window of Tate’s Plumbing Plus, opposite Ashcroft’s Supa IGA.
Police at the scene said early indications were the accident was caused by driver error.
Staff inside Tate’s Plumbing Plus were not injured when the vehicle crashed through the window.
Orange Fire and Rescue firefighters determined the damage to the building was only superficial, as the vehicle crashed through the front facade and missed a nearby supporting beam.
The vehicle was driven out of the building and parked in the gutter.
Firefighters cleaned up the area by removing large shards of glass that were protruding from the building and clearing the street.
Police are waiting to interview the driver of the vehicle and his passenger.
