TODAY’S Central West Junior Rugby Union under 17s grand final could not be scripted any better.
Orange City will go up against Dubbo Blue at today’s decider at Endeavour Oval.
The two sides have met twice this season, with Orange City winning 25-7 during the regular season, before Dubbo came out on top 18-7 in the major semi-final.
“We’ve had a crack each,” Orange City coach Tony Dalton said.
“Both sides will be fairly keen to put the first points on in the grand final.”
Orange City downed Mudgee 16-10 to earn another shot at Dubbo in the decider.
The young Lions took out this year’s under 17s minor premiership.
Dalton said the team’s success may come down to the familiarity between the players.
“I’ve coached a lot of the team since under 8s,” he explained.
“I think it’s because they’ve played together for such a long time. A lot have also played Central West and representative rugby with their schools.
“They’re strong across the park.”
The Orange City boys would love to win today, with two-thirds of the side enjoying their final season of junior rugby union before moving up to colts.
“I think they’re quietly confident,” Dalton said.
“They were really excited at training on Thursday.”
Dalton expects another tight scoreline today between the two sides.
“I think the team that can keep their mistakes down will win,” he said.
“They’re evenly matched in the forwards and the backs. There’s not much between them. They’ve been each other’s nemesis for a few years.”
Today’s under 17s grand final at Endeavour Oval will kick-off at 12.10pm.
