IT is not often that aliens and NASA scientists mix in the same room but that was the scene at Catherine McAuley Catholic Primary School yesterday.
Schools in Orange, as well as Orange City Library, have been celebrating Children’s Book Week with the 2013 theme of ‘Read Across the Universe’.
The theme gave students and teachers a great opportunity to dress up in some fun costumes according to Catherine McAuley’s teacher/librarian Elizabeth Sergeant.
“We asked them to dress up in something from space,” she said.
“The teachers also got into the spirit of things as well.”
Mrs Sergeant said students came to school in a wide range of costumes including aliens, Dr Who characters, Star Wars storm troopers and planets.
During the day students held a trivia session with questions based on finalists in the 2013 Children’s Book Week awards.
“There were five rounds and they were related to space,” Mrs Sergeant said.
Peter Douglass said Orange City Library is a great place to see all the short-listed books on display.
“They’ll be available for loan from Monday,” he said.
Mr Douglass said this week’s story time sessions have been hugely popular with yesterday and today’s morning sessions both booked out.
Limited places are still available for tomorrow’s 2pm story time session at the library.
