ORANGE Tigers out-scored Bathurst for three quarters of the Central West AFL reserve grade preliminary final on Saturday, but the Bushrangers did enough in the opening quarter to set up the 10.10 (70) to 9.6 (60) victory.
Bathurst had a brilliant start to lead 5.1 (31) to 0.2 (2) at the end of the opening quarter.
From there Orange scored 58 points to Bathurst’s 39, but the gap was too big.
“We let them get too far in front in the first quarter,” Tigers coach Andrew McIntyre said.
The coach said the players were disappointed to miss out on a grand final against Young, but he was still happy with them.
“They played really well. We just didn’t quite get there,” he said.
“I was really happy with the way they played.”
McIntyre said Anthony Fisher was strong for the Tigers and under 18s player Pierce Frecklington backed up well, while Daniel Putland and Jake Hannas kicked two majors each.
