THE Orange community turned up in droves yesterday to donate yummy home-cooked cupcakes for the RSPCA Cupcake Day fundraiser.
Orange RSPCA Fundraising Committee president Anne Reith had put the call out for donations for the annual fundraiser, and the community did not disappoint.
The committee held cupcake stalls at Post Office Lane and outside Ashcroft’s Supa IGA yesterday with a great community response, according to committee secretary Susan Sanders.
“People just turned up with containers and trays of cupcakes ... we were inundated,” she said.
“So far we’ve raised around $1500 but we haven’t finished counting.”
Mrs Sanders said the funds would go towards vouchers for desexing and vaccinating animals as well as to the Orange shelter.
An upcoming education program for children to learn how to look after their pet will also benefit thanks to the fundraising.
“If we can get into the kids’ heads hopefully they will influence their parents,” Mrs Reith said.
Mortgage Choice was among a number of businesses and veterinary surgeries to also get behind the fundraiser.
Administration assistant Kellie Taylor said staff “chipped in” to bake cupcakes for their fundraising event.
“I’ve had my fundraising page going for a couple of weeks now and we’ve raised nearly $300,” she said.
Mrs Taylor said the inaugural cupcake day fundraiser was also a success with their customers.
“Customers were wanting us to have it on every time they walked in the door,” she said.
