Yesterday’s chilly weather was 6.5 degrees below the long-term maximum temperature for August of 11.3 degrees.
The mercury was predicted to drop to minus1 last night, 1.8 degrees below the long-term minimum for the month of 0.8 degrees.
Weatherzone meteorologist Rob Sharpe said he received reports that around 30 centimetres of snow fell on Mount Canobolas early yesterday morning.
“It was due to the south-westerly winds brining in a very cold air mass,” he said.
“It’s quite rare for it to get that much on the peak.”
This week also started off on a cold note with Monday recorded as the coldest overnight August temperature for the last 37 years, with minus 4.4 degrees.
Mr Sharpe said today is expected to reach a maximum of 10 degrees.
The weekend is expected to warm-up with 13 degrees predicted for Saturday and 14 degrees on Sunday.
