ORANGE City are playing some pretty handy cricket at the moment, but the Warriors are also providing Cricki Leaks with plenty of fodder late in the summer.
With skipper Dave Boundy being interviewed by a regional television network following his side’s win over Cavaliers last Sunday, this column overheard one of his clubmates yell this timeless one-liner in Boundy’s direction.
“You realise the camera adds 10 kilos? You’re in trouble.”
A bit rich given the comment came from one of the more voluptuous cricketers going around at the Orange City club.
It’s grand final week, and for cricket lovers there’s no better time of the year.
Having had almost a month off cricket, CYMS take on Orange City in the first grade decider, Orange City also feature in the second grade grand final against Kinross and Metro will face-off against Centrals in thirds this season.
CYMS Fahys and Kellys will ensure the Centenary Cup decider is a proud green and gold affair.
Naturally, Cricki Leaks is tipping favourite son Ned Morrish will run riot against former club CYMS, but foresees a five-wicket green and gold victory come Sunday.
Kinross have been in giant-killing form of late, but Orange City are another Andre-like beast altogether and will win easily against the students.
Cazim Kadic has played in the ODCA for years, but has saved 2012-13 as one his best and should lead Metro to the title against Centrals this weekend.
And, finally, we’ll go out on a limb and say CYMS to win in the Centenary Cup.
Cricki Leaks noticed the third grade preliminary final between Centrals and Cavaliers featured a diamond duck, with Centrals’ tailender Brock Walker showing a clean pair of concrete-laden heels on his way to the rarest of quackers.
It’s done wonders for his 2012-13 batting average of 3.63.
Next Friday’s Cricki Leaks will be this summer’s last.
But before our avid readers sob into their weet-bix, rejoice in the fact we’re tipping it to be our best ever.
To mark the occasion we’re releasing the inaugural Cricki Leaks XI, with many of our favourites certainties to make the cut but a number of positions in the line-up still very much up in the air.
This weekend could be make or break for a couple of players.
