The Orange and District Relay for Life kicked off at 3pm with an impressive $99,000 already in the bag.
Organisers are hoping to reach the $150,000 target and based on participant numbers the target is not out of reach.
It was an emotional journey for cancer survivors, their friends and relatives as they began the first lap of the grueling 19-hour relay.
Survivors walked arm in arm with those who supported them during their diagnosis and treatment.
For one Orange man who was diagnosed with prostate cancer four years ago, it was hard to hold the tears back.
