Three generations share in special celebration

SOME stories are an easy read with a straightforward tale, but this one is a little different.

On Saturday, three generations of the one family were baptised, Tom Partridge, 37, his daughter Mia Partridge, three months, and his granddaughter Ariannah Rich, four months.

The ceremony was held at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church.

Associate priest, Canon Margaret Finlay said it was a little on the unusual side to have two generations so close in age.

“It’s less common that we baptise two generations that are the same age,” she said.

Mr Partridge said it was a spur-of-the-moment decision to get baptised alongside his daughter and granddaughter.

“I never got christened and Michelle [his wife] and Jane [his 18-year-old daughter] decided to hold their christening on the same day, so I decided to do it as well,” he said.

Mr Partridge said their situation had caused a little confusion.

He has three daughters - Jane, 18, Sarah, 8, and Mia, three months.

“Mia was an auntie before she was even born,” he said.

“I was a grandfather when I was 36.

“The most confusing thing is that Mia is younger than Ariannah.

“We’ve stopped trying to explain it to people.”

Michelle Partridge said she was looking forward to sharing motherhood with her elder daughter.

“It was a great day. I’ve been looking forward to it and I think the church was looking forward to it to.”
