A 25-YEAR-OLD man appeared in Orange Local Court yesterday following a siege at a house in Cowra on Saturday afternoon.
Police said they were called to a house in Conimbla Road at around 6.25pm after they’d received reports Grant Russell had armed himself with a bow and arrow.
Police spent several hours attempting to talk to Russell who eventually left the house unarmed, with another man, at 10.25pm.
Russell was arrested at the scene and a search of the house uncovered a bow, arrows and significant property damage.
He was taken to Cowra police station and charged with malicious damage, using an offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention and assault.
Russell didn’t enter a plea in court yesterday and was refused bail before being transferred to Orange Health Service’s Bloomfield campus to undergo a psychiatric assessment.
Depending on the results of assessment Russell was to have been held at Bloomfield or Bathurst jail until his appearance at Orange Local Court today.
