Skaters scoot over to Glenroi Oval

ONE day at its new location and Orange City Council’s moveable skate facility is already a hit with Glenroi residents.

The mobile skate park was uprooted from Anzac Park yesterday morning and moved to a new home at Glenroi Oval.

The moveable ramp, grind box and rail is part of council’s latest study to determine which part of East Orange is the most suitable for a skate facility.

Council recreation manager Shahreen Alford admits the study, which is  based on observation, revealed the usage at Anzac Park wasn’t quite what council hoped it would be, but the response from Glenroi residents, so far, was overwhelming.

“Already we’ve got kids using the facility on the first day,” Ms Alford said.

“Those same boys were travelling all the way over to Anzac Park to use it as well.”

The skate facility will remain at Glenroi Oval for the next six weeks.

It will then be relocated to Margaret Stevenson Park in Bowen.

After its time at the Spring Street reserve, council will weight up which location is the most user friendly.

A decision on whether or not the movable facility finds a more permanent home will then be made.

“A recommendation will be put to council once the study is complete, but the best thing about it is at the end of the study, we’ve still got the moveable equipment. I don’t want to say it’ll definitely become permanent somewhere, but we’re hopeful,” Ms Alford said.
