In the lead-up to Valentine’s Day next week, one central-west NSW couple have proven that love can find you at any age.
Today Anglican Reverend Alan McAnulty, 85, will marry his sweetheart Rosemary Brown, 81, in a ceremony at St Barnabas Anglican Church.
The couple have known each other for 16 years, but suddenly their stars collided just two months ago.
“He’s a chaplin at Wontama and I used to go there singing,” Ms Brown said.
“She also provided the music for me for the last four years,” Reverend McAnulty said.
The couple told Fairfax Regional Media they had each been married before and found themselves on their own in their twilight years.
They said it was important they make their new union official.
“We’ve both had a church upbringing and think it’s right,” Ms Brown said.
When Ms Brown decided to give up volunteering at Wontama, Reverend McAnulty said he decided to make his move.
“So I wouldn’t lose her I asked if we could carry on the friendship,” he said.
“It was going to be on a friendship basis and a coffee, but it soon changed ...why waste time?
With the nuptials being held today Ms Brown said she was not at all nervous and was simply looking forward to the ceremony.
Like any bride she has planned the day, picked out a dress and told her friends and family about her new husband-to-be.
“We’ve had so many good wishes and things can’t go wrong when you’ve had so many good wishes,” she said.
While Ms Brown said it was a romantic proposal, she did not want to divulge details.
