A 45-year-old man was injured when he tried to fight off an attacker on Tuesday night.
The man, who sustained facial injuries in the struggle, was walking near the intersection of McLachlan Street and Palmer Street, near the Orange Function Centre and Orange Indoor Tennis Centre, at about 8.15pm when a man approached him from behind.
The attacker tried to grab the victim’s bag, which he was carrying over his shoulder. He resisted and was knocked to the ground.
Police and ambulance were called and the victim was taken to Orange hospital for treatment.
The stolen bag contained cash and personal papers belonging to the victim.
Inspector Dave Harvey of Orange Police is calling on anyone who may have been in the area at the time and can help police with their investigation into the robbery to police on 6363 6399.
The attacker is described as being of Aboriginal appearance and aged around 20.
He was of a solid build and was wearing white sneakers and a black hoodie.
