World title headlines fight night

A WORLD title is up for grabs at tonight’s Conquest 2 fight night at the Orange Function Centre.

Thailand’s Saiyok Windysport will fight Mike “300” Demetriou from Melbourne’s Supafight Gym for the MASA junior middleweight world Muay Thai title.

Event promoter, Wellington’s Phil Bennett, said the main fight was a huge event in Australia.

“This is the first time Saiyok has fought in Australia. He’s a 28-time world champion,” Bennett said.

“He’ll fight Michael “300” Demetriou. He’s the first Australian fighter to say yes to fighting Saiyok. I’ve been trying to get Saiyok matched with an Australian for two years.”

Windysport has a mountain of experience, with 247 fights for 204 wins and one draw.

Demetriou has had 39 fights for 32 wins and will be tested by the world champ in five three-minute rounds.

Bennett said to have Windysport fight in the central west, let alone Australia, was huge.

The world title bout between Windysport and Demetriou will cap of a huge 11-fight program.

Petchtanong Angelgym, a Thai fighter based in Wellington, will attempt to defend the world title he won at the first Conquest fight night.

He will take on Eric Miskle, from the Yougn Bulls Gym in Victoria, as they fight for the junior welterweight world title.

Another Thai fighter based out of Wellington’s Angel Gym, Kampan Santaweesook, will go up against Queensland’s Adam King for the welterweight world title.

There will be two Australian titles up for grabs and an Orange fighter will be after one of them.

Orange’s Phil Tyqui, from High Impact Gym, will fight Canberra’s Charlie Thompson for the MASA junior middleweight Australian amateur title.

Wellington’s Joshua Primmer will fight Christian Balzer, from PTJ Gym, for the MASA cruiserweight Australian title.

High Impact Gym’s Joel Noonan will take on Penrith’s Jake Rasion for the MASA junior middleweight NSW amateur title over four two-minute rounds.

Others from Orange and Blayney to feature include Punch4pound fighters Thomas Field and Dylan McNabb, High Impact’s Charlie Bubb and Tristan Roach and TLG Thai Boxing’s Nikita Campbell.

Doors will open at the Orange Function Centre tonight at 5pm and the first fight starts at 6.30pm.
