Orange City councillor Sam Romano has reignited calls to close one block of Anson Street and solve safety concerns at the troubled pedestrian crossing with a mall.
Cr Sam Romano said a push to install flashing lights at the crossing didn't go far enough and called for the taxi rank in front of Woolworths to be moved to Kite Street.
"I've always said that the taxi rank was in the wrong place," he said.
"There's too much congestion in one spot."
Cr Romano said the Anson Street mall could be used as a benchmark for other malls to make the CBD more appealing for shoppers, with areas for alfresco dining.
"It's well and truly overdue to make some sections of Orange into malls," he said.
Find out what other streets Cr Romano suggests should be closed-off in tomorrow's CWD.
