KINDERGARTEN students trickled into Orange public schools over the last three days as they prepared for their first day of classes on Monday.
For Bowen Public School student Shelby-Rose Nugent, it was a first day to remember.
She said she enjoyed drawing, colouring and playing with new friends, but when she saw her dad Morgan stroll into the playground she did not want to let him go.
She threw her arms around him and told him about her special day.
Mr Nugent was relieved the first day had gone well.
“I was at work this morning but I think her mum cried a bit,” he said.
Kelly Birch was excited to pick up her daughter, Emily Radnedge, yesterday to hear all about the friends she had made.
Ms Birch said she was looking forward to watching Emily learn to read.
“We’ll be going through the home readers,” she said.
Emily said her favourite part of the day was walking to school with her mum and finding a feather.
Daniel Allen wanted nothing more than to see his son Sean Flemming smiling after his first day at school.
“I just want to see him get along with everybody and have fun,” he said.
Bowen Public School has 30 kindergarten children and, as of yesterday, only one child shed a few tears when mum and dad dropped them off.
