COUNCIL staff are investigating whether walls in the aquatic centre change rooms are structurally sound after a man was taken to hospital via ambulance when part of a brick wall fell on his feet.
Council spokesman Nick Redmond said two rows of besser block brick fell on the man when he was using the wall to do stretches just before closing time on Friday afternoon.
“The guy got pretty significant foot injuries,” he said.
“He was anchoring himself on top of the petition when the two rows of besser blocks came lose and landed on his feet.”
Mr Redmond said staff were investigating why the bricks became detached.
“They’re existing walls that have been there for a while so we’re looking into it,” he said.
“It’s not a structural wall it’s just a partition around some sections so its not holding anything up.”
Despite the council spending $8.2 million to upgrade the centre last year, Mr Redmond said the pool amenities only received a “cosmetic upgrade”.
He said there were no plans for further upgrades.
