A total of 49 sires and females were catalogued from predominantly local studs though vendors from Western Australia, South Australia and Queensland joined the list.
An 86 per cent clearance was achieved when 25 of the 28 bulls on offer were sold at auction for an average of $5840 while 11 of 13 females were sold to a top of $12,000 and averaging $5500.
The first bull to reach the top price of $14,000 was the reserve champion from earler in the day, ‘Wollumbi Newmoon’, offered by David Croker and Peter Wiess, Wollumbi Red Angus stud, Marulan, near Goulburn.
Some active bidding secured the bull for a syndicate consisting of Bruno and Marie Schmidt, BST Tullatoola stud and the Hobbs family, Round Em Up stud, both of Molong; and Lindsay and Judy Murphy, Campaspe Flat, Muskerry, Victoria.
The 24-month-old Newmoon weighed in at 960 kilograms and registered an eye muscle area (EMA) of 129 square centimetres and scrotal circumference of 40 centimetres.
Syndicate member David Hobbs said he saw the bull at the Sydney Royal Easter Show earlier this year and was impressed.
BST Tullatoola was also on the receiving end of the high prices as vendor of ‘BST Tullatoola The Night F52’, which also sold for $14,000.
‘The Night F52’ was purchased by Peter and Anne Saglietti, Ponkeen Red Angus stud, Tarcmombe, Victoria. The 24-month-old bull scaled in at 955kg and an EMA of 134 square centimetres.
The Sagliettis also purchased the top-priced female, ‘GK Ellabella 213 E26’, who was awarded the champion female sash earlier in the day, for $12,000.
‘Ellabella 213 E26’ was sold as a cow and calf unit with nine-month-old bull calf by ‘Red Diamond Hips T Scout 107U’ at foot. The cow was sold preg-tested in calf to ‘Red Fine Line Mulberry 26P’.
Sandy and Sally Thompson of Blue Hills Red Angus stud, Gladfield, Queensland, were among the volume buyers of the day, taking home two bulls to a top of $9000 for Pine Villa Felix, offered by the Haycock family, Pine Villa stud, Yeoval.
The Thompsons also secured BST Tullatoola Pasquale G18 from BST Tullatoola for $5500.
The tradition of donating a heifer to the Red Angus Society was continued this year with ‘Tronar Gingin Brooke’ donated by Ross and Tracy Collard, Tronar Red Angus, Gingin, Western Australia.
The heifer was purchased by Richard and Kate Shaw, Ox Hill Red Brangus stud, Bell, Queensland for $5500. The proceeds will be used to promote the breed.
A top of $25 per straw was reached when three packages of 10 straws of semen from Anama Robin Hood R45 AICR45 were offered by the Red Angus Society of Australia.
The purchaser of the top-priced package was BST Tullatoola stud, Molong.
