Along with year seven and transition who started on Tuesday, it was also principal Len Elliott’s first teaching day at the school since he was appointed to the post last year.

“I started three weeks ago and the people and staff have been really lovely,” he said. 

With 23 of the kindergarten students starting at the school in transition last year, the majority of kindergarten orange and kindergarten blue classes were old hands on the campus so there were no tears when the Central Western Daily dropped by.

“Transition varies between 25 to 27 [children] per day,” Mr Elliot said.

“As the name implies it exists so the kids can become used to school and separating from their parents.” 

Mr Elliot said transition was a good way to prepare the children for school benefiting them socially, academically and also helping build their immune system.

Yesterday was a quieter day on campus with transition, kindergarten and year seven all given a head start before the rest of the school returns today and kicks off the day with a school assembly.

Mr Elliot said there were one or two spaces left in the kindergarten classes but the transition classes were almost full.

“The ratio of students to teachers here is very good,” he said.

For the first time the school has two year seven classes for the form’s 35 students to cope with increased demand.

“It’s very encouraging the junior school is very full and that’s moving through the senior years now,” he said.
