A SECTION of Woodward Street is closed after a water main burst at 1pm this afternoon.
The road is closed between Summer and Kite Streets with water now gushing along the street and into the front yard of a number of properties.
Orange City Council spokesperson Allan Reeder said it is a 300 millimetre "trunk main" that has burst.
"[It will take] up to another hour to isolate the valve," he said.
Mr Reeder said nearby residents may notice a drop in water pressure but their supply should not be interrupted.
At this stage he said there has been no damage to residential properties in the area.
Mr Reeder said the road may be closed until midnight as council work to repair the damaged water main.
