Rainfall welcomed with more to come today

THE most significant rain fall in several weeks overnight has been welcomed by residents and district landowners in the Orange area. 

There are currently no thunderstorm warnings for Orange however heavy rain is forecast to fall at 3pm before easing off and continuing through until tonight.

This hasn't deterred the big crowd of enthusiastic rowers who are on site at Lake Canobolas for the Dragon Boat regatta scheduled to get underway soon.

The Weather Bureau recorded 40 millimeters for Orange in the hour to 1am. Local residents said they had recorded up to 80 millimeters in their gauges overnight. 

Orange State Emergency Services volunteers worked through the night assisting business owners in the central business district who experienced some minor flooding issues.

A local hotel has had part of its awning collapse due to the heavy deluge after midnight.

The Orange City Unit also undertook a Flood Rescue in this area, as they drove upon a vehicle caught in floodwaters near the creek – the male occupant was removed from the vehicle without incident.

Minor flooding also occurred in the Blackman’s Swamp Creek area.
