Afternoon update
DR Peter Bilenkij was named Orange's Citizen of the Year at Australia Day celebrations at Cook Park this morning.
A big crowd turned out to enjoy the festivities in the shade of the park's trees and judging by the crowd's reaction Dr Bilenkij was clearly a favourite.
Australia Day committee chair Helen Corby was thrilled storms forecast for earlier in the day did not eventuate.
"We had the contingency plan in place to move the Function Centre, but I got up this morning and it was just delightful," she said.
Dr Bilenkij won the top gong for his work with the Radiotherapy Alliance, Cancer Care Western NSW and his role in the planning committee for the Orange Health Service.
