Getting set for take off

IN just over one month’s time Brindabella Airlines will take to the skies as Orange’s second airline and already Orange City Council is putting the finishing touches in place to make way for the carrier at the airport terminal.

Renovations to establish a check-in desk, at the opposite end of the terminal from the existing Regional Express (Rex) desk, include the removal of a wall, a false floor, a new external door and baggage mark-up area.

Orange City Council commercial and emergency services manager Kel Gardiner said the alterations were done at council’s expense and were expected to cost about $4000 to $5000.

Work will be completed in time for the airline’s first flights on February 18.

The demolition and rebuilding of the 1960s-era terminal is expected to start by Easter.
