FIREFIGHTERS remain on scene following a blaze that started at Goldings Long Point, Ophir Reserve north of Orange this afternoon.
NSW Rural Fire Service Canobolas Zone duty officer Geoff Selwood said they believe the fire may have started due to a lighting strike in the area.
“It is contained to within one-hectare on a ridge line,” he said.
Crews will patrol the area overnight as they wait for heavy machinery to arrive on site to help build containment lines.
Mr Selwood said the Goldings Long Point fire is located approximately four kilometers south of the now under control 475 hectare Long Point fire which began on New Year’s Eve.
Residents are reminded if they see any fires with no fire trucks in attendance to call triple-0.
