Second man arrested over presumed Bathurst murder

POLICE have arrested a second man in relation to the presumed murder of a Bathurst man in 2009.

Investigators from Chifley Local Area Command have been investigating the suspicious disappearance of Mr Andrew Russell, under Strike Force Renshaw.

The then 23-year-old was captured on CCTV leaving a newsagency on William Street in Bathurst on June 2,  2009. This is one of the last confirmed sightings of Mr Russell. The man has not accessed his bank account or contacted family since then.

Following information received from the public, Strike Force Renshaw investigators arrested a 25-year-old man at a park in the Bathurst suburb of Windradyne about 8.15am today.

The man was taken to Bathurst Police Station, where he has been charged with murder. He will be refused bail to face Bathurst Local Court today.

This follows the arrest of a 26-year-old man by Strike Force Renshaw investigators in Sydney on Wednesday 16 January 2013. He is currently before courts charged with murder.

Meanwhile, police are continuing their search of a property near the township of Sofala with the assistance of the Dog Squad and SES volunteers.
