EMERGENCY crews averted what could have been another bushfire for the region on Wednesday night after a truck fire spread to a nearby paddock on the Mitchell Highway.

At about 7.45pm the driver of the truck noticed smoke coming through the air vents of the prime mover.
He instantly pulled over and noticed flames coming through the vents.
The driver attempted to douse the fire with an extinguisher however the extinguisher ran out before the fire was out.
The fire then spread to grass on the side of the road, jumped the fence to a paddock and continued to burn.
Fire and Rescue NSW Orange station and the Rural Fire Service North West brigade attended and put out the fire that had burnt about a hectare.
No-one was injured however the prime mover was destroyed and towed to Orange.
The highway was closed in both directions for about 20 minutes and one lane was closed for the next one and half hours.
l POLICE are investigating the cause of a single vehicle accident on the Northern Distributor Road yesterday.
The crash occurred at about 1pm.
The 42-year-old driver of a sedan was travelling east past the Anson Street intersection when the vehicle ran off the road and collided with a fence.
He was treated by paramedics at the scene but was not taken to hospital.
l A MAN was charged with high range drink-driving after he crashed in Canowindra on Tuesday.
The 32-year-old Canowindra man lost control of his vehicle on Rivers Road at about 12.15am.
The car rolled and landed in a paddock.
Police arrived at the scene and the driver was breath tested.
He was then taken to Canowindra police station where he under went a breath analysis and returned a high range reading of 0.153.
The man’s licence was suspended immediately and he was issued with a field court attendance notice for a later date.
