Robbers armed with syringe

TWO German backpackers were threatened with a needle and syringe and robbed on Wednesday night.

In a tough month for backpackers in Orange, the two men were sitting in their car at 10.30pm outside the Orange Aquatic Centre in Warrendine Street when they were approached by two men who pointed a syringe through the open window of the car.

One of the offenders is described as Caucasian and blonde while the other was  described as Aboriginal in appearance, with dark hair and a heavy build.

The backpackers did not know the two men.

One of the offenders opened the car door and snatched a backpack which contained personal items.

Orange detectives are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident.

The robbery follows un-related incidents on New Year’s Eve where French backpackers had their tents burnt to the ground while they were away for the Sydney fireworks and an ongoing payment dispute between backpacking fruit pickers and an employment contractor.
