QUICK thinking neighbours saved the lives of a woman and three children during a house fire in Jindalee Avenue on Wednesday night.
Neighbours woke to the smell of smoke and saw flames coming from the house next door.
They rushed in and alerted the woman who escaped with the children unharmed.
The fire started at about 11.15pm and Fire and Rescue NSW Orange station crews arrived by 11.25pm at the time the house was “well alight”.
All three fire trucks were in attendance and had the fire out by 1.47am.
Senior firefighter Phillip Pedley said the fire caused damage to about 15 per cent of the fibro house.
Canobolas Local Area Command Inspector Dave Harvey said the fire appears to have been accidental and started in the laundry of the house.
A witness who declined to be named said she was impressed by the quick actions of the fire brigade.
“They had it out pretty quickly,” she said.
“It looked a lot worse than it was last night [Wednesday night] the flames were coming out everywhere and the smoke was pretty bad.”
Nobody was treated for smoke inhalation.
