TWIN tons from Max Wallner and James Dimarkos have guided the ACT under 15s to a comprehensive 186-run win over ACT Thunder in the final of the Western NSW under 15s carnival yesterday.
Played in batter-friendly conditions at Wade Park, Wallner belted 109 not out while Dimarkos hit his second ton of the week-long tournament, smashing an unbeaten 101 in the ACT under 15s’ total of 6-337 after 50 overs. Both batsmen retired.
In reply, the ACT Thunder, largely an under 14s squad, made it to 151 before being bowled out, handing the ACT under 15s the 2012-13 title.
The big win capped off a remarkable tournament for batsmen, with seven triple-figure scores brought up throughout the carnival.
Along with both of Dimarkos’ hundreds and Wallner’s decider ton, Pat Brandon (Dubbo), Charlie Mortimer (Orange-Bathurst), Logan Ayers (ACT Thunder) and Praveen Mathai (ACT Thunder) all made it to the magical 100 mark.
Hayden Bagolgey was the only bowler to master the flat decks in Orange, claiming 5-37 for Shoalhaven.
In yesterday’s other results, Dubbo finished third courtesy of a 24-run win over Lachlan.
Wagga finished the carnival in fifth, defeating Shoalhaven by five wickets, Mitchell completed a strong end to the Western NSW tournament with a dominant nine-wicket win over the Blue Mountains and Orange-Bathurst overcame a determined South Coast unit to win by one wicket, finishing ninth.
Next week, Orange will again host a Western NSW junior cricket carnival.
Twelve under 13s sides from around the state will be in action, with the first day’s play set to pit Mitchell against South Coast, the Northern Districts against Orange-Bathurst, ACT Blue versus Wagga Warriors, ACT Gold against Shoalhaven, Illawarra versus Lachlan and in the final game Penrith plays Dubbo.
All games are on Sunday.
The under 13s finals will be on next Wednesday.
