Fires under control

The fires near Orange at Long Point and the Baldry/Cumnock area are both under control according to the Canobolas Zone of the Rural Fire Service.

Two helicopters are carrying out aerial surveillance at Long Point to spot any flare ups and four ground crews have been deployed to the perimeter of the fire ground.

The fire has burned almost 500 hectares already.

Paramedics are urging Orange and district residents to stay out of the heat, avoid physical exertion and for residents to be mindful of the elderly and small children who need to remain hydrated.

Orange is expected to reach a top of 35 degrees today, with the gauge hitting 30 degrees at noon.

Tomorrow's temperature will be similar with a high of 34 degrees expected.

The Rural Fire Service are asking CWD readers to remember not to light fires in these extreme conditions.
