Ms Wannan and Mr Dalton-Brown died after being run over by a teenager driver as they slept in their swags following an Australia Day party with former school friends on the property.

Lee Dalton, the mother of Will Dalton-Brown, said she wanted transparency when it came to recording a finding into the deaths of her son and Ms Wannan, and hoped her questions could be fully addressed when the inquest resumed next year.

Ms Dalton said she wanted to know why investigating officers failed to call in the Crash Scene Investigation team stationed at Bathurst.

“And I also want to know why the local investigation team was unable to produce any form of plan of the incident scene when asked for by the deputy director of the department of public prosecutions,” she said. 

The inquest into the deaths of Ms Wannan and Mr Dalton-Brown began in Orange Court in May last year but was abruptly adjourned by Deputy State Coroner Sharon Freund on the fifth day of proceedings when she told the inquest she believed a jury could be satisfied beyond reasonable doubt an indictable offence had taken place.

“There is a reasonable prospect of a jury convicting a known person of an offence,” Ms Freund said at the time.

Ms Freund ordered the matter be handed to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

However, it was not until earlier this year a determination was made by the DPP not to proceed with any charges against the driver who ran over the two young people, and the case was relisted at the Glebe Coroners Court.
