Police and SES are on scene this morning after they were contacted about 7pm when the man had not returned from a fishing trip.
The man, holidaying from Sydney with his wife, ventured out alone in a small dinghy around 2pm. It’s believed he wasn’t in possession of a life-jacket.
When he didn’t return five hours later, his wife raised the alarm.
Tourists at the dam this morning said he was a diabetic and was due to return to his camp site around 4pm to take medication.
Severe wind gusts at the Dam yesterday afternoon meant bad conditions on the water.
Shortly after police arrived yesterday the man’s vessel was found capsized but the 54-year-old could not be located.
Personnel from the Chifley Local Area Command and the State Emergency Service are continuing their search.
The Carcoar Dam has been closed to the public until further notice.
