They secured a four-run win over CYMS in their rescheduled Twenty20 game at Wade Park.
Molong batted first and finished at 4-140 with Luke Wood (84 not out) unbeaten.
In response CYMS slowly closed the gap in a nail-biter but fell four runs short at 8-136.
Molong president and player Trent Frazer was thrilled with the win and praised Wood.
Frazer (25) and Wood put on 74 for the second wicket.
“Luke was in good form. I was just holding up an end for him. We decided to keep some wickets in hand,” Frazer said.
“After about 12 or 13 overs we thought we better have a bit of a crack. We still had plenty of bats in the shed.”
Molong were 2-77 after 14 overs and put on 63 runs in the last six overs to reach 140.
“We were very happy. It was good to get a strong score,” Frazer said.
CYMS spinner Al Dhatt took two wickets in his last over for 2-20 off four overs.
Chris Novak (1-14) and Luke Clarke (1-23) claimed the other wickets.
CYMS chipped away at the total with opener Dean Turner (35) and Nick Wright (28) putting on 44 for the third wicket and taking the team to 3-81.
CYMS needed 14 off their last over to win and were on target with captain Dave Neil scoring two twos and a four off the first three balls from Waz Fazakaley.
Neil was then caught and Josh Sands (1) was run out going for a second on the fifth ball. CYMS needed five off the last ball to win but a dot ball ensured Molong took the win.
“We missed a few chances in the field. Our bowlers pulled through. We knew if we put the pressure on they still had to score at over a run a ball,” Frazer said.
“It was a great game. It was touch-and-go the whole way. We didn’t know the score but we knew they were close.”
Molong was happy but Neil hammered his team’s bowling.
“It was disgraceful,” he said. “Chris Novak was the only bowler to show any kind of consistency and control.
“If we bowl like that in our next two pool games we’ll be bundled out without a win and deservedly so.”
Frazer said the Molong players weren’t eyeing off the top prize after their opening victory.
“We won’t get our hopes up. We’ll just keep playing the way we did,” Frazer said.
Molong will be back at Wade Park on November 30 to take on Kinross.
