TRIATHLON
ORANGE competitors brought home four top-three results at the Triathlon NSW State Junior Series event at Lake Canobolas on Sunday.
The Orange Cycle and Triathlon Club was the host for the series’ ninth round, with competitors testing themselves in the soggy conditions.
Orange athletes dominated the 16-19 years girls’ division, with Laura Wolfson first and Alison Matuschka second.
Matuschka was first out of the water after the 400m swim but Wolfson reeled her in during the 12km ride and 3km run to take top spot.
Tristan Harrison thrived on his home course to win the boys’ 16-19 years event.
He was first out of the water and stayed in the lead following the ride but his rivals closed the gap in the run.
Harrison managed to hold on to win by 10 seconds from Forster’s Grant Melzer, with Bathurst’s Jake Thornton a further 27 seconds back in third.
Dylan Swain was the other Orange competitor to earn a podium finish when he ran in third in the boys’ 10-11 years event.
Swain was competitive right the way through the race, which included a 50m swim, 3km ride and 1km run.
A further 17 Orange competitors contested the event and produced some great results.
The other age division winners were Penrith’s Lauren Griffin (7-9 years’ girls), Newcastle’s Brianna Hunt (10-11 years’ girls), Maitland’s Mikhele Rundle (12-13 years’ girls), Gunnedah’s Molly Lorimer (14-15 years’ girls), Bondi’s Zac Zala (7-9 years’ boys), Hills’ Jack Ferris (19-11 years’ boys), Gunnedah’s Jackson Ludlow (12-13 years’ boys) and Bathurst’s Nathan Bankovic (14-15 years’ boys).
The final round in the state series will be held at Mudgee on March 14 and will double as the State Junior Triathlon Championships.
