MUDGEE have again relegated Orange to second in the Central West Inter-Club Triathlon Series with a dominant final-round display in Mudgee on Sunday.
Orange held the overall club championship lead heading into the final round, but for the second year running Mudgee came from second in their home round to take out the series.
This is Mudgee’s 11th Inter-Club series win in the 12 years the series has been run.
They finished the season with 699 points, 103 clear of Orange on 596. Dubbo were good enough for third with 371 points, while Bathurst were back in fourth with 171.
Orange publicity officer Steve Martin says they are getting closer to ousting Mudgee and will continue to work towards doing so next summer.
“We’ll have another go next year. We’re getting closer every year,” Martin said.
Orange has produced individual series winners, though, with Christine Wolfson the women’s 30-39 years champion and Matt Cotten the men’s under 19s winner
Cotten’s series win comes despite missing the final round in Mudgee.
Scott Wolfson was first in the men’s 40-49 years, while Leanne Nicholls took out the women’s 20-29 years age group.
Christine Wolfson wrapped up her series win with first in Mudgee, with Orange’s Janet Martin second in the women’s 30-39 years to Wolfson both on Sunday and throughout the series.
Danielle Syme was another who came second overall, in the women’s 40-49 years, while Tristan Harrison and Laura Auberson finished third in the men’s and women’s under 19 years age groups respectively.
FINAL STANDINGS: Mudgee 699, Orange 596, Dubbo 371, Bathurst 171, Cowra 15.
