ORANGE tenpin bowler Jason Belmonte has become just the 21st person to bowl a 300 game televised live across the United States of America in 50 years of the Professional Bowlers Association World Series of Bowling.
The 28-year-old professional capped off a memorable World Series campaign with the magical game, watched by millions of people across America.
Belmonte was in disbelief at his latest feat.
“To go down in history as the 21st person to have bowled a 300 game on TV in the PBA is just awesome. It’s just been a ridiculously crazy, awesome ride,” Belmonte told the Central Western Daily from Vegas.
“I’m just overwhelmed and on cloud nine at the moment.”
To cap off the perfect game, he dominated the World Series event.
Lasting two-and-a-half weeks, Belmonte won three PBA titles.
He took out the Chameleon Open with a score of 268-191 over Sean Rash and then won the Geico Shark Open in a close one over Chris Barnes, 243-214, on the same day.
The next day he triumphed in the Pepsi PBA Elite Players Championship, edging out Mike DeVaney 255-238.
Across eight PBA tournaments in the World Series, Belmonte made the TV finals, or top four in the competition, on six occasions while recording a third in the PBA World Championship.
Belmonte said it was a dream tournament.
“To walk away from the World Series with three titles, six championships appearances ... I’m exceeding a lot of my own expectations,” Belmonte said.
Belmonte said he enjoyed the atmosphere of the event in Las Vegas.
“It’s packed. The stands were packed for all of the TV finals. The Vegas crowd gets right behind all of the bowlers it’s just great,” he said.
Belmonte will fly home before jet setting off to Johannesburg, South Africa, for the 2011 World Cup.
He said he was in good enough form to challenge the best.
“If I bowl half as well as I have over here [in Vegas] then hopefully I can bring home the World Cup for Australia,” he said.
“It’s never been won by an Australian male so hopefully I can be the first.”
